MIDDLE SCHOOL LEARNING CENTERS

The Learning Centers at Thomas R. Pollicita Middle School and at Benjamin Franklin Intermediate School offers a toolkit for underperforming students – tutors, mentors, healthy food, and regular exercise.

Tutors are former Jefferson High School students attending local colleges and current advanced placement or honors students from Jefferson High School.  They offer one-on-one help and serve as role models to the younger students.

Students get healthy sandwiches, fruits and drinks every day at no charge.

Students who engage in regular physical activity tend to feel better about themselves.  They are more attentive and engaged at school.  They demonstrate better behavior and better grades.

Improve Academic Performance for 2009-2010
English Language Arts:

  • Sixth graders improved by 75%
  • Seventh graders improved by 86%
  • Eighth graders improved by 83%
Math:
  • Grade Appropriate Math test Sixth graders improved by 80%
  • Seventh graders improved by 91%
  • Eighth graders improved by 100%
